When the Seattle Public Library decided they needed a new central library they
decided to rebuild on
the existing site. Due to the demolition of the existing
building and site preparation the central
library would be closed for about two
years. The temporary facility was built in the space that will
be the future Museum of History and Industry. The central focus is the three story tall lobby with the
brightly colored stairway and walls. The lobby space is divided from the floor areas by a plastic panel
wall system, which allows diffused sunlight to enter the reading areas. The building is illuminated
by several different lighting types including High Bay and Low Bay metal halide fixtures and Low Bay
fluorescent fixtures, continuous rows of fluorescent fixtures and track lighting. The lighting is
controlled by an Intelligent Lighting Control System. We also installed the Seimens Fire Alarm System
and the Chubb Security System cabling.
